In the 80s, the Rottweiler was the second breed on the AKC (American Kennel Club) list of breed popularity.

This may look cool and these dogs are amazing, but it wasn’t.

When a dog breed is popular, people tend to get it just because its popularity. Most of them don’t even know what is the Rottweiler as they didn’t do any research.

These reasons made hearing about Rottweilers worse. The Rottweiler and the Pit Bull are now being subjected to BSL (Breed Specific Legislation).

In the 90s, their popularity started to fade. From 1997 until 2007 the Rottweiler’s popularity fell by about 76%:

  • 1999 they were #8
  • 2004 they were #16
  • 2008 they were #14
  • 2009 they were #13
